Asura Cryin

(Last Updated On: August 4, 2017)

Natsume Tomoharu is a normal high-school student in every way with one exception: he’s being followed by the ghost of his best friend, Misao. After moving into his brother’s old house, Tomoharu expects to continue living his normal life but is one day left with a mysterious and locked briefcase without any instruction. At first he plans to leave it in storage; however, his house is soon invaded by multiple groups of people after the briefcase. Although still not knowing the purpose of the briefcase, Tomoharu and Misao attempt to escape with it. From there on, Tomoharu tries to learn the secrets behind the briefcase, the connections between it and Misao, and why it has the power to change the world. – My Anime List

There’s no getting around that the show is visually appealing. It’s colorful, sometimes flashy, and smooth. The soundtrack is decent. Most importantly, they could have run with a deus ex machina at the end, one much more pervasive than the one that was used, but they didn’t. I respect that. The show almost serves as an example of what immature, selfish and petty people can sometimes do if you give them a lot of power – and also sometimes the courage that results when you just have to live with your choices. I don’t think the show had to be such a cluster**** to demonstrate these principles, but it is what it is.

So I am basically going to review another person’s review on the anime and just talk a little bit about what they said, the review I am referring to is the very first review on the page and is about two paragraphs long, I dislike the overall review since he/she doesn’t really dwelve into what they actually liked about the anime and it’s more of just a copy and paste of the summary of the anime. Although I will agree with him/her when they say that the anime has suspense because it truly does have suspense.

Asura cryin is a great show that focuses alot more on the supernatural side than anything else. It also has solid action and animations when summonings of the asura machina take place. The cast of characters is very likable and while the ending was pretty much unfinished, it left quite some impact. Great show overall, it even has a second season to offer anyone who wasnt satisfied with the 1st season.

It’s terrible..and I advise anyone and EVERYONE to avoid watching it so they won’t waste any time like I have. I feel bad for the talented voice actors that have to provide their voices for this disaster. So really, unless you actually like watching animes with boring characters, confusing ‘plot twists’ with no explanation, and having a series that’s hoarded with tons of random characters at once, then by all means, go for it. If not, seriously. Don’t watch this. You’re much better off watching something like Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann, Code Geass, or Macross Frontier. Actual animes with VERY high potential.

Entirely Anime
There isn’t a lot to say about Asura Cryin’. The protagonist is a bit lame, and comes off as hugely patronizing near the end, and the final villains are all flat, but the supporting characters are filled with individual charm. The action itself is a bit weak but buoyed by the creative design and vigour of the combatants. Near the start of the second season it really starts to transform into a top-tier anime, but falls back to earth with a lacklustre ending.

While watching this I felt I’d seen it all before; the terminology may be different but it was still a school boy and his mostly female friends struggling to save the world by fighting various magical battles. There are some comedy moments which did succeed in raising a laugh although I’d have been happier if the comedy levels had been increased throughout… when things got serious it wasn’t so much fun. If you like magic and mechas there is a good chance that you will really enjoy this; if not you’ll probably find it has some decent moments but not enough to justify sitting through twenty six episodes!

Was I entertained? Yes! Was I satisfied? No. So overall what would I say about Asura Cryin’? I liked it. Will I watch season 2? HELL yes. I won’t deny that I was interested and wanted to like it more, but the circumstances made it tough to. The only thing I can say, is give it a try!

Plots need time to build. So, less boobs and more plot would’ve been good. Alas.
