Despite the negatives, I do think this is a really good Anime, some of the characters are really badass and it’s worth a watch for anyone who likes action. It can also be catagorised as a comedy at some moments as the characters do have senses of humour. Although I definitely think they could slow down on the f bombs, but it’s what makes the characters themselves. It’s more proof as why Black Lagoon is my favourite Anime.
Black Lagoon is a wonderful show that manages to get almost everything right. The action if furious, the plot is solid, Rock is a great main character and the sordid nature of the black society is present throughout. It’s also a straightforward series with an effective formula and good looks. There is no excuse not to watch Black Lagoon. If you like anime and are not afraid of blood Black Lagoon is a must-see series and also a great addition to any collector’s shelf.
Black Lagoon works on many levels. On the surface it is just another action anime with some comedic elements to break up the often bloody and intense atmosphere and could easily be mistaken for that just seeing one episode. However, the series really deals with the human condition and what would make someone turn their back on a normal life and seek a life in the underworld of crime.

Although its a really good anime, I don’t have a lot to say.
A fantastic roller coaster ride that hides intelligent story-telling and characterisation beneath its loud exterior, Black Lagoon is something of a modern classic that deserves all of the praise it gets.
Right Stuff Anime
I don’t know what has me more excited: the fact that FUNimation saved this from the annals of Geneon’s vault after they went belly up, or just the face that it exists at all! From the very first scene you know you’re in for a good time, and thankfully the action never lets up for a second. I mean if modern day pirates, Neo Nazis, gunrunning nuns, bullets plenty Terminator-like super maids, and one of the baddest gunslingers mamas EVER don’t get you excited, then you’re clearly looking for entertainment in the wrong place, my friend.
An amazingly well crafted story should recieve a game adaption and a film eventually everything about this makes it tie with my favorite Anime: GIS, AKIRA, Ah! My Goddess!, Freezing!, Howl’s Moving Castle, R+V. Word.
Good Anime Review
What made this anime especially great was the sense of realism you get from watching it. Although it’s a bit exaggerated, there are actually people living this kind of lifestyle out there! It kind of makes me envious, because here I am sitting behind the computer typing a review, while people are out there doing all sorts of crazy shit!

This brings me to the real crux of the matter: the show is really about the criminal mind, and the life of crime in all its forms. It paints an alluring portrait of the attraction to such a life, but never forgets to challenge that attraction by showing the kind of sacrifices one has to make of their humanity. It shows crime as a dangerously beautiful thing, and also shows it at its most sickening. All the exciting action is secondary to this. In conclusion, Black Lagoon should be watched by all action fans, but is a step above most shounen series due to its challenging and, at times, risqué foray into the heart of the criminal world. It is for mature audiences, because, despite having such character and being so colourful about murder, it is also very dark at times. There are flaws in the way it is paced, and the way some of the characters are neglected, but it has some very sharp dialogue, and is regardlessly entertaining thrill
When we talk about anime involving gunslingers the names that come to our mind are Trigun, Hellsing, Cowboy Bebop or Black Cat. Black Lagoon often gets overlooked. Give this anime a go, I am sure your list of gunslingers will change once you see Revy. This is one of the first few anime that I watched and I absolutely fell in love. Black Lagoon is a really great show and you’ll love it.
I just recently picked up this anime because I heard good things about it from some friends, and I am glad they told me about it. Its about a group of mercenaries, that remind me of modern day pirates. They take jobs from various organizations, including the Russian mob. Some of these tasks include robbery, and other mischievous things. The animation is very crisp and clean, and the gun fights are awesome. It makes numerous pop-culture references, which I found amusing, and it also has a touch of comedy, granted its dark comedy. The characters are all very interesting, with the main character,Rock, who joins the group out of circumstance. He is a very likable character and doesn’t care for violence. Revy, the main female character is another favorite and a total opposite of Rock. She is tough, enjoys killing people, drinks, smokes and cusses more then anyone else in the show. Dutch who is a large African-American Vietnam veteran and the commander of their small boat, and Benny, a computer geek, and a non-violent person, much like Rock. Over all, if you want some anime with action, interesting characters, and a good plot, you should check it out.
If you have a light stomach for swearing and bloodshed among generally screwed up things, then this is not for you. If you think you can handle it lock your room door so mommy doesn’t walk in on you and give it a try. I do recommend renting or viewing online first, but the best part is you can use any episode and still know what is going on so yeah, try episode 17 as a start, as it is one of the better episodes though they are all pretty good. The final arc is the longest though, I recommend that one from the beginning for various reasons though you still wouldn’t be lost too much if you watched like the final episode. I highly recommend trying this anime if you have the stomach for it.
There really isn’t much to criticize about Black Lagoon; the only minor issue about it is the abrupt ending. It is fortunately a strong indication that a second season is in the works, but it could have done the show a favor by ending things off on a high note. But this is a trivial thorn on the side when the series is in overall a no-holds-barred rollercoaster ride. It’s unadulterated, it’s bleak and it’s oh so entertaining to watch. Better yet, it pays homage to live-action movies and icons of yesteryears, such as The Replacement Killers and the Terminator movies, to give it that distinctively nostalgic touch. Between One Piece and Black Lagoon, the latter is like this more adult, more cynical and more in-your-face big brother of the former; if One Piece reitinerates the power of friendship to overcome all odds, Black Lagoon begs to differ by saying that friendship means nothing in the face of vice and gore. Madhouse shows how an action series is done by presenting to the audience one of the most daring seinen productions in its résumé. Best of all, the story of Black Lagoon is not over yet.
This is a cool, slick and highly entertaining production. It’s got good visuals, enjoyable characters, and action-filled episodic plots. It’s colourful, doesn’t take itself too seriously, but doesn’t goof off too much either. Highly recommended for lovers of the action genre who prefer gunplay over mecha, and like the real-world contexts rather than sci-fi/fantasy. I got a real kick out of this, and my only real complaint is that it didn’t go to the sorts of places I thought it had the potential for in terms of underlying story.
Black Lagoon was one of my favoruite animes of 2006 and its a shame not many people have seen it. Well im trying to get you all to see it now haha! Black Lagoon is not about an epic fantasy adventure, or a complex mystery drama, it is just a dark comedy with really badass action scenes. I have seen way too many sword animes and everything seems overused, it was a great break to see an anime like Black Lagoon being realistic and using guns. Guns, we might hate them, but you cannot say that a gunfight looks bad with awesome charactes like these! Gosh the unique cast of characters are amazing, we have the 4 different criminal organisations of Black Lagoon that all do work with each other to make a living. We have the leaders of each organisation and all the other characters who make a living by killing and spilling blood for money. Roberto, my gosh, if I could name my favoruite maid character in all existence, it would have to be Roberto, she is an Ex Assassin who has killed women and children in wartimes! Most animes just do not cross that line, but I don’t know about you, but I kinda like it over this line…
It’s such a pity. This could have become one of the major series of 2006, but because of these small elements, it just didn’t make it. Still, I definitely recommend Black Lagoon, if it only was because of its first season.
