Blast of Tempest may be a deity among animes, but it’s no angel, it’s got quite a bit of nudity, cussing, violence, and adult humor. But if that, and a little William Shakespeare are enough to scare you away from one of the best, most tightly pulled together series of the year, and possibly all time, then let me be the first to say, you don’t deserve to bask in the incredible greatness that is, and always will be, Blast of Tempest!

BLAST OF TEMPEST is a glorious tragedy of action, dramatic storytelling and complex characters. This anime series is one of the most ambitious stories we’ve encountered, and it captures everything we love about William Shakespeare. Blast of Tempest might be an inspired tragedy but its ingeniousness is on par with Shakespeare’s works. If not, better.
Not often do I come across a show that gets me completely hooked by the first episode. Usually it takes me a few to get into the characters and story, however Blast of Tempest just so happens to be one of those shows that I could tell right from the start, that I’d love it.

While it may not be perfect, you won’t see many anime as enjoyable or as well made as Zetsuen no Tempest. The second half represents a devastating lack of realized potential but remains interesting enough to carry the show to a satisfying conclusion. The realistic setting and characters mesh with magic and an out of this world story to form an experience that is just about impossible to not enjoy. If you’re after entertainment, then look no further.
Overall Blast of Tempest was a great and interesting anime despite the fact that it was following some unoriginal ideas at first. Fans of fast paced action will love Blast of Tempest along with viewers that enjoy a good drama and mystery along with the occasional unpredictable plot twist. In short, most anime fans can’t go wrong with Blast of Tempest so long as you can tolerate constant quoting and references to Hamlet.
All in all I very much enjoyed Blast of Tempest and found it to be a good, solid series that I could easily watch multiple episodes of at a time.
Zetsuen no Tempest is based on a manga of the same name. It is the dark and mysterious story of two friends who try to reveal secrets that are beyond their understanding. Many open questions and interesting and credible character designs leave viewers hooked to this original story line. The brilliant animation quality underlines its role as an adequate and noteworthy adaptation.
If you’re looking for a good mind-screw with a godly soundtrack and fun characters, then this is a series to check out!
If you’re after a more serious anime television show with an epic world-saving quest, substantial character development, intrigue and mystery and plenty of satisfying action scenes, give Blast of Tempest a watch – the thought provoking, underlying textual themes, and the clever character constructions of Mahiro to Hamlet, Yoshino to Romeo and Aika to Juliet are just a bonus.

Even while faltering in its last third, first half of Blast of Tempest still packs enough drama, good-looking animation, and interesting characters to carry it through its weak points. Some startling turn of events in the last few minutes of episode 12 will force a significant change for the second half, so whether or not it can reassemble the formula that has worked for it so far remains to be seen.
At a few episodes in I had rated this anime at four stars. That rating slowly dropped to three, and now I’m kicking it down to two and a half. The more I think about it, the more I dislike this series. I will not re-watch it. I probably won’t recommend it. I’ll try to forget it. No. Just, no.

The most underrated show of the season. The story is original, the characters are great, and the artwork is beautiful. There is quite a bit of action in Zetsuen no Tempest but it’s the dialogue that will keep you on the edge of your seat, especially in the later episodes. It’s what happens when there is no real “bad guy” and both sides are desperately fighting for what they truly and honestly believe is right. These shows are always so much more intense and so much better than your typical “I’m doing this because I’m evil and you’re here to stop me because you’re good.” shows. I highly recommend this show to everyone.
Not a strong four stars but even for its flaws it has enough quality to stand above the majority of the pack. Take a star away if you hate dialogue heavy shows. This cast likes to talk.
Overall, Blast of Tempest represented a brilliant modern style mystery with some ancestry blood of William Shakespearean work bought to life. And in the end, the anime handled itself well and had an ending which tied up the ends. Therefore, the series as a whole, balanced all the components, and had an excellent cast of characters. So, it was a great watch and I would recommend it to anybody who can turn of his head and enjoy an anime for what it is!
I recommend watching this all the way through without reading many reviews or doing much research as it would make the show less powerful (I already accidentally read some things on wiki!!! and I’m very angry). Spoilers weaken what makes the show interesting. Especially a show like this.

I would be lying if I said I wouldn’t hesitate before I recommended this to someone. If you’re not a patient person, or you don’t like long stretches of mostly dialogue, or of stories whose plots get a little convoluted then I would say that this maybe isn’t the anime for you. If you’re willing to overlook certain things, and want something with above par animation that might throw you a curve ball or two story-wise (and you’ve got a day free to marathon something) then I’d say go ahead and add this to your plan to watch list. It doesn’t have to be at the top of that list, mind you. And I certainly wouldn’t put it on a must watch list. But it is good, and you won’t feel like your time is being wasted by watching it. It’s a fun little show, and I’ll miss it. Just a little bit.
Overall though, I’d say this anime is worthwhile. Its style is unique and the buildup is worth it, even if a bit too stretched out for my tastes. The end is very captivating, and you get to see the plot finally come together and to a conclusion.
