Chrono Crusade

(Last Updated On: June 30, 2017)

The 1920s was a decade of great change and upheaval, with monstrous demons appearing across America. To combat this menace, the holy organization known as the Order of Magdalene was established. The organization’s New York branch is home to the young and reckless Sister Rosette Christopher, as well as her partner Chrno. Tasked with the extermination of demonic threats, the renowned team is excellent at their job, despite causing extensive collateral damage on their missions. However, both Rosette and Chrno are driven by their dark pasts. Through exterminating demons, Rosette hopes to find her lost brother Joshua who was taken by the sinner and demon, Aion, with whom Chrno also shares a bloody history. The two of them must fight off the increasingly dangerous demonic menace and discover its source, while continuing to search for the truth behind Joshua’s disappearance. – My Anime List

This is one hell of anime, the pace just doesn’t stop. Its between the Earth, Heaven, and Hell with Rosette and Chrono stuck in the middle. Chrono is a devil but working the Magdalene Order and he is helping Rosette to find her brother. Whats interesting is the concept of Hell’s role in the Universe and how each of these devils have different concepts and that they fight amongst each other. The anime is great, I love the songs used in the start and endings, and the storyline is easy to follow but still keeps you wanting more. It isn’t a typical ending, but that is what is so great about it. I recommend this anime for whoever enjoys watching anime, the anime will end and you will miss these characters.

This truly is a hidden gem in the deepest depths of anime. Loved it as a kid, and I love it now. Definitely worth the watch. I am horrible at giving things away, so I won’t go into detail about the show. You will just have to see for yourself, you won’t regret it.

The world of Chrono Crusade may be historically inaccurate and far-fetched, but it’s also so concrete that you can’t help but believe in it. Being in a religious order has never felt so exciting—or so dangerous. With animation that’s always on the move, a confident visual style, and the beginnings of a gripping story, this first disc of Chrono Crusade is a delightful trip into an America that never was.

I recommend anyone to watch Chrno Crusade. From the average otaku to an early anime watcher, you can’t go wrong with this series. If you plan to watch it, at least watch the first 3 episodes. Do not do the same mistake I have and nearly dropped it on the first episode; which I deeply regret doing. Give it a try.

Brilliant character development, coupled with an engaging plot riddled with religious and historical mythology. This is a series that makes you fall in love with the characters, and through that emotional connection, you experience their joys, horrors and tragedies.

So give this anime a try, if I didn’t get you with my title then hopefully I convinced you with my review. And just one more push, I mean really how often are you able to watch something with a nun with guns anyways?

This is a good series, I swear, just in a specific form. I fully endorse the manga where you’re going to get the original story, which frankly was much better when compared to the anime, and see it’s progression. It’s also a short read, only 8 volumes! While it’s a definitely a dated series it’s worth a look into. I’m not sure if it was popular or not, but it’s one of those series that I frequently tell people about and not many people know about it. At least not from what I’ve seen.

Chrono Crusade isn’t the greatest anime out there and it does have many elements we’ve seen in other anime to date. The action sequences aren’t anything to rave about and the overall plot has been done before. But it’s the character development and relationship between our two protagonists that really is the beam of light in this anime of darkness. So if you can push aside the overall plot and lackluster action sequences and focus more on the relationship between Rosette and Chrono, then this is an anime that you’ll end up enjoying.

I would definitely place this amongst the ‘Bad Gonzo’, with stuff such as their adaptation of Hellsing and Gantz. Out of fairness though, I can sorta acknowledge that it’s not complete crap, it has some redeeming factors, but not enough for me to recommend it.

Despite a few nicely placed ideas here and there Chrono Crusade is ultimately a simple series with below average execution and an unattractive set of main characters. If you have some nostalgic memories of Chrono Crusade and would like to own the show be my guest and buy this DVD box. Newcomers however will be disappointed by Chrono Crusade’s mediocre presentation and plain execution.
