Code Geass (Season 1)

(Last Updated On: July 28, 2017)

In the year 2010, the Holy Empire of Britannia is establishing itself as a dominant military nation, starting with the conquest of Japan. Renamed to Area 11 after its swift defeat, Japan has seen significant resistance against these tyrants in an attempt to regain independence.

Lelouch Lamperouge, exiled prince of Britannia, unfortunately finds himself caught in a crossfire between the two nations’ armed forces. He is able to escape, however, thanks to the timely appearance of a mysterious girl named C.C., who bestows upon him Geass, the “Power of Kings.” Realizing the vast potential of his newfound “power of absolute obedience,” Lelouch embarks upon a perilous journey as the masked vigilante known as Zero, leading a merciless onslaught against Britannia in order to get revenge once and for all. – My Anime List

Sparkly Anime
It’s an anime that offers as much to its viewers as dance music offers parties. More gripping than a strength test and with enough twists and turns to keep you searching for that maze exit. I must admit. This is my favourite anime of all time. And I couldn’t recommend watching it enough.

Anime PH
The best mecha sci-fi action anime out there. It’s most outstanding part are the thoughtfully created and authentic characters, same as their character development and personal tragedies. A story so deep with unexpected turns and tragic deaths that will always make you starve to see the next episode. Action, tears and joy combined with awesome animation quality, characters and story is the reason for the huge success of Code Geass. It’s an original story not based on any previous works.

I rate this anime 10/10 because it can’t be otherwise. It’s by no means overrated, it’s not just another anime. The plot is deep, and serious, it makes you think. This is what’s important about a story.

All in all, this series is very interesting and all who like or love anime should add this series to their “need to watch” list. The animation effects are great, the plot twists are thrilling and there really are not plot holes to be found in this story.  It is also a series that makes one think about things in order to fully understand what is going on sometimes but even when the in depth parts are not fully comprehended, then it is still a good series

The series is fantastic. I really suggest you go watch it for yourself and see what you think. If you liked Death Note, No Game No Life, or any tale of intrigue and deception, (A Game of Thrones?) this show is a must. If you like mecha anime, this show is a must. If you like good anime, this show is a must.

Code Geass is a great anime show and it is very entertaining. The fights and soundtrack were awesome. The strategic battles were well-made, the character design was gorgeous and is very appealing. What makes this a great anime is it’s crazy plot. I wholeheartedly recommend this anime.

Code Geass is a top tier anime and completely deserving of the title ‘masterpiece’. The last episode of season 2 left me speechless, I was heartbroken, I cried. Very few anime can match Code Geass be it in terms of plots or in terms of feels. This is an absolute must watch if you are sucker for top class anime. It was one of the most memorable anime experiences of my life and definitely one of my top 5 anime of all time. “All Hail Lelouch! All Hail Britannia”

The main thing that makes Code Geass so enjoyable, though, is just how exciting it all is. This is the only show I’ve ever seen that will leave me jumping up and down in excitement on the sixth rewatch. Lelouch looks like he’s about to lose, and then causes a mudslide, creates a tidal wave, or wipes out a city from out of nowhere. And then a flourish of his cape and his evil laugh… aaahhhh….

Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion is a very interesting spin on the sci-fi and mecha anime genres, including fantasy elements and rewriting history. The series is not particularly Gundam-esque, but that isn’t a bad thing, as it shows Sunrise’s ability to mix things up a bit. The broad range of characters combined with their various backstories and reasons for joining the conflict is deeply entertaining and keeps the human element of the story the major focus. It’s not often that a series attempts to place an anti-hero in the lead of such a large series, and the fact that Lelouch keeps from becoming the stereotypical scheming kid keeps things engaging, as viewers can’t ever be too sure as to what Lelouch’s next move will be.

Code Geass is by far one of the best anime series out there and is one that will leave you suffering from ‘the feels’. There’ll be moments which will make you chuckle and there’ll be some that may leave you in tears. Either way, I’m sure you’ll feel satisfied having watched this marvellous show, which will likely leave you pondering your own sense of morality and justice in today’s world.

Simply put: the most satisfying series I’ve ever seen, anime or otherwise. The story is compelling, the characters– major and minor–are all interesting, and the fusion of Clamp character design with Sunrise mech-spertise is marvelous. The mech battles are jaw-dropping.

I really love this series, and I definitely did not see that happening. Honestly, I found the first episode incredibly underwhelming: the opening sequence made it look like a series I wouldn’t be interested in watching at all, and all of the expository really turned me off…but the second episode? That was so much more epic than I could have ever predicted, and I was pretty much won over after that. I’m just a sucker for chess analogies, I guess! Seriously though, good story, good characters, good animation, and good music! Mechas, politics, rivalry and comradery, strained friendships, love and hate, complex ideologies, and blowing shit up! What more could you want?

This is a show that deserves to be watched and should be watched. It exceeds in every aspect a series must and most never do.

If you haven’t given Code Geass a chance I certainly recommend it to you, doubly so if you enjoy mecha. It leaves you rooting for both sides of a conflict where only one can emerge victorious, will leave you near tears at times and will also keep you guessing on how far each character is willing to go to achieve peace in the world. If you feel this sounds like an anime for you I can easily recommend just going out and purchasing the Season 1 set.

Them Anime
A melodramatic piece of science fiction that has more than enough going for it in terms of action and visuals but tends to go overboard with its emotionalism. If this minor flaw can be overlooked, there is an epic story to be told with a rather intriguing main character at the helm. Take away one star if that minor ‘flaw’ cannot be ignored

Code Geass is an iconic anime that is fun, weird and entertaining. I’d recommend it in this regard – don’t let anyone tell you it’s all intellectual or anything. If you want some light heated enjoyment then it truly delivers, and this is something none of its problems can take away.

If you like mecha and mind games related anime series then this one is for you. It has an emphasis on tactical combat rather than the usual super hero character to save the day. It also blends in political and social ideas related to acts of war or peace. It’s a series that’s easy to follow and you won’t be short on action and other classic mecha elements.

That doesn’t excuse the fact that Code Geass is a whole mess in terms of storytelling, and wants too much too fast. The character-development is ridiculous, it’s full of plotholes and unable to really create something memorable (not in a good way, at least). I’ve read somewhere that even the director thought that this series has turned crappy, so I hope that he learned from his mistakes and that his next series will be a “bit” more solid.

With flashy animation and sweeping music to accompany what is already a refreshing product, Code Geass is unquestionably my favorite anime out of late 2006. If you want to know the source of such memes as “Pizza Hut supports the rebellion” or “Orange-kun” look no further. If you don’t, your loss… although, the show is so goddamn addictive that this may not be a bad thing.
