Why should girls get to have all the fun? These magical boys are here to save the world from the loveless… at least that’s what the pink wombat who gives them their magical powers wants them to do. In Binan Koukou Chikyuu Bouei-bu Love!, the main characters are the members of the “Earth Defense Club” at the Binan High School, though all they really want to do is hang out, goof off, and relax at the nearby Kurotama Bath. One fateful day, though, a pink wombat appears out of nowhere and forces these five high school students to become “Battle Lovers” and protect Earth from a trio of villains who are taking orders from a green hedgehog. Over the course of the series, the Battle Lovers will take on a variety of fiends, including the chikuwabu monster, a chopstick phantom, a monster remote control, and plenty more strange enemies! Will the heirs to the throne of love be able to protect Earth from those who want to destroy love? Or will the Earth Conquest Club fill the world with hate? – My Anime List

I’m proud to call myself a fan of this spectacular series, and will be even more proud to call myself an owner of this series, just as soon as FUNimation releases it that is! But, for the love of magical boys, don’t wait for the home release to watch this mind blowing, mind bending series. Wave whatever magical wand you have on hand and teleport yourself over to Crunchyroll.com or FUNimation.com right now, and watch this life changing series today!
Basically, think sailor moon but substitute the girls with guys. Ultimately, you’ll either love this show’s off-the-wall humor or you grumble and move on. Personally, I think it’ll be fun to laugh at the sailor moon-ish gender-reversals and will be staying around for this show’s full run.

Would I recommend it to others? Now, there I’m not so sure. The humor is heavily reliant on the audience’s understanding of magical girl series AND all-male “bromance” fanservice series (it’s basically an absurd marriage between Sailor Moon and Free!), so if you’re not familiar with the genres, I’m not sure how well the jokes will land. I think it’s also important that you go into it understanding everything I said about the satirical elements, and if you find yourself disagreeing with my interpretation, then the series isn’t going to work for you nearly as well as it did for me. And that’s totally fine, but it does make me hesitant to recommend it to anyone. So I guess the real answer is: You’ll have to decide for yourself.

When this series was announced I assumed it was very much going to be a shoujo series; with its list of bishounen characters and camp costumes… perhaps it is but it is also a lot of fun and can be enjoyed by just about anybody. The Battle Lovers’ costumes could hardly be more camp; something that isn’t lost on the characters. One doesn’t have to watch for long to realise this series is rather special; the events spoof magical girl tropes while also giving us something new. The characters are a lot of fun; most notably Yumoto Hakone, the red costumed Battle Lover who is oblivious to the campness of the situation. The Wombat provides plenty of laughs too as he is carried around by Mr. Tawarayama, the boys’ teacher who is now under his control and looks like a rotting corpse when away from the wombat! The various battle scenes are fun with the characters transforming and calling out their amusing attack names and when the characters aren’t fighting monsters they are being funny. Overall I’d say this series was a real surprise; much better than I expected and definitely one to watch.

Magical Boys is a much better experience then many people expected it to be. You may come for the mahou shojo parody, but you’ll stick around for the general wittiness, self-aware humor, and overall comfy atmosphere that emerges from watching this show.
These pretty boys will have you laughing the night away.
