Eureka Seven

(Last Updated On: April 28, 2017)

In the backwater town of Bellforest lives a 14-year-old boy named Renton Thurston. He desires to leave his home behind and join the mercenary group known as Gekkostate, hoping to find some adventure to brighten up his mundane life. However, stuck between his grandfather’s insistence to become a mechanic like him and the pressure of his deceased father’s legacy, the only excitement Renton finds is in his pastime of riding the Trapar wave particles that are dispersed throughout the air, an activity akin to surfing.

Everything changes when an unknown object crashes through Renton’s garage, discovered to be a Light Finding Operation—a robot capable of riding the Trapar waves—specifically known as the Nirvash typeZERO. Its pilot is a young girl named Eureka, a member of the Gekkostate, who requests a tune-up for the Nirvash. Their meeting sparks the beginning of Renton’s involvement with the Gekkostate as he takes off alongside Eureka as the co-pilot of the Nirvash. – My Anime List

I was addicted to this series when i first watched it and it probably is my favourite anime series and Renton and Eureka are my favourite on screen couple. it cuts a lot of romantic clichés and when it does resort to them it does them relatively well, the action was great, the world was imaginative and the action and story were great and well paced. couple that with great characters , animation and soundtrack and you have 50 episodes of complete joy

In all honesty, it has been an extremely long time since I have enjoyed something as much as this, maybe I haven’t ever enjoyed something like this before. Everything was just perfect for me, the romance, the action, just everything was amazing to me. There wasn’t a single episode that flew by that I didn’t completely enjoy. And after I finished this anime, it easily became my new Number 1 anime, which wasn’t very surprising when I was finishing up the anime and movie. I knew I’d love the anime, but I never thought it’d be this good.

Overall, this anime has great characters. During the right parts, they really shine like no other. If you’ve got enough time for a 50-episode series, I’m definitely recommending this.

The beautiful and distinctive art style and a lasting narrative that always has a clear if convoluted plan shine through, and it makes the anime one of my personal favorites. It’s a bit cheesy and not always as action packed as you would expect, but it’s distinctive and made me care about its characters more than most shows can.

I personally feel every anime fan should give this series one complete watch, if not just to see why this series is so different than most anime, then to just say they’ve seen it. The English DVD’s for the series are now out of print. Thankfully I have my 2-part complete collection set, but it can still be pretty easy to find if you know where to look.

The Anime Review
I will think fondly of Eureka Seven for some time to come, and that’s because what it gets right, it does so very well. Very few anime are willing to tackle the themes found here, from the bond of family and the choice to love others who are different from us to the ability of unchecked power to destroy us while we cheer. At a more basic level, Renton and Eureka are a great anime couple, one that you feel you really know by the end of the series. It isn’t the best anime I’ve seen by any measure. Yet it has gotten under my skin. I invite you to enter into this series fully prepared, knowing it contains both wonders and mistakes, and I think you’ll find yourself loving it too.

It is hands down my favorite anime of all time! This show has so much character it makes you think, laugh, cry, and feel flat out amazing! Each and every character has something to offer you grow attached to all of them. The one problem I have with it is it starts off really slow. I guarantee so many people started watching thought it was boring and and stopped watching. I was so close too stopping i said one more episode and boom i was hooked. All i can say is stay with it PLEASE!!! it turns into the best anime ever. Highly underrated and just flat out amazing! Also has the best soundtrack for a anime ever, and i stand by that

Eureka Seven stands as a prime example that anime can provide great storytelling regardless of it’s genre and themes. Featuring a love story of the ages, Eureka Seven will be considering one of the top anime series from the 2000s for decades to come, the mechas were just an added bonus.

Eureka Seven is what every anime, no every TV show aspires to be, something original, intriguing and always fun. It’s a rarity to have such a uniquely told story that is full of lovable characters and wondrous technical achievements. Eureka Seven is the best anime of 2005. No, the best anime in years.

Them Anime
Some will find the show’s slow pace exasperating (it’s especially dilatory toward the end), it gets maudlin in places (again, especially late in the series), has too little real explanation in spite of its verbiage, and the whole “surfing” concept is a bit goofy; on the other hand, some of the characters, and their interactions, are nearly perfectly conceived, and the show is often “adult” in the GOOD way (even if Renton, and even more so Eureka, are ingénues.) It’s also a bit less grim, maybe even more optimistic, than many similar Sci-Fi shows, and that’s not a bad thing either, as far as I’m concerned. In the first version of this review I expressed concern that by “marathoning” the series I might have missed some things, but discovered that others found that with its slow pace, marathoning the show helped them keep their interest.

Nihon Review
I would never trade my time spent watching this anime. My eyes were glued to the screen episode after episode. As an anime fan however I can’t help but wonder what this anime could have been if the creators would have planned a bit more thoroughly and avoided all the plot holes. This series is truly hard to define in terms of quality. As much as the following may resemble an oxymoron; “Eureka 7” is a masterpiece with an abundance of flaws.

The series’ pacing can be frustrating to deal with, but it can’t overcome the fact that Eureka Seven is filled to the brim with memorable and likable characters that populate its unique and visually-engaging world.
