Haikyuu (Season 1)

(Last Updated On: December 23, 2016)

Inspired after watching a volleyball ace nicknamed “Little Giant” in action, small-statured Shouyou Hinata revives the volleyball club at his middle school. The newly-formed team even makes it to a tournament; however, their first match turns out to be their last when they are brutally squashed by the “King of the Court,” Tobio Kageyama. Hinata vows to surpass Kageyama, and so after graduating from middle school, he joins Karasuno High School’s volleyball team—only to find that his sworn rival, Kageyama, is now his teammate.

Thanks to his short height, Hinata struggles to find his role on the team, even with his superior jumping power. Surprisingly, Kageyama has his own problems that only Hinata can help with, and learning to work together appears to be the only way for the team to be successful. Based on Haruichi Furudate’s popular shounen manga of the same name, Haikyuu!! is an exhilarating and emotional sports comedy following two determined athletes as they attempt to patch a heated rivalry in order to make their high school volleyball team the best in Japan. – My Anime List

I am super hyper-critical of anything in the media pertaining to my sports. I played volleyball for about 8 years as a Middle Blocker and occasionally an Outside Hitter (Wing Spiker left side aka Asahi and Tanaka) but Haikyu!! wins everything and probably the sole reason I want to play so badly again

Unleash The Anime
Haikyuu!! was an amazing show that I really love! I can’t wait for October so I can see season 3. The story will instantly hook you with drama, action, and comedy. You find yourself rooting for Karasuno as if you actually went to the school and I think that is because of the great story and the amazing characters. Speaking of the characters, they are truly the heart and soul of this show. You’ll really like the characters as you grow to know them more and they will keep you watching. If for some reason that you don’t like the story or characters you should really love the soundtrack. The songs are amazing and you can really jam out to them. The voice acting is superb and each character is voiced to perfection. Overall I just loved Haikyuu!! and if you like sports anime you need to watch it. I’d also recommend it to anyone that likes drama and slice of life type shows.

Haikyuu!! is built from a familiar template, but its characters, emotion and storytelling show why the formula works. I had a blast.

The Dolphin Echo
This anime is very comical and certainly interesting. It helps show that there are bumps in the road, everyone has problems, and even enemies can become friends. The character development is amazing and each has his own special personality and traits. Even though the show is rather humorous, it does have its dramatic moments and tragic backstories, and there are lessons learned after episodes.

The Grand Shuckett
Haikyu!! was one of most enjoyable animes I’ve watched in quite some time. I went into it knowing nothing about volleyball at all, and after watching this anime, I could totally watch a volleyball tournament. The ending totally surprised me and I’m slightly bummed about the lack of a second season, however, I’d still recommend it to all.

I Love Anime Reviews
Even someone that actually doesn’t like sport can fell in love with this anime (example: me). How can animated volleyball can be so good? I actually don’t know how! I think that characters just gave too much charm as everyone of them is precious and unique!! In addition, did you see that animation?! I love how the whole match goes as it makes it not only interesting but also exciting!! It plays with your emotions! Also it contains bunch of humour which will make you cry! The plot is also interesting as it shows the ‘fallen’ volleyball club which wants to climb higher and higher and become stronger and better.

This is anime leaves me speechless, seriously. It’s just so brilliantly done. Some episodes pass by really quickly because you enjoy them that much and some episode feel twice as long because of the shows brilliant pacing. This anime has brilliant comedy, I swear I’ve laughed so many times. I’ve also cried too. If this anime was more popular I swear it has the quality to be a top anime. Imagine an Anime that makes you laugh when you’re sad and makes you cheerful when you’re bored, just imagine an anime that makes reading this review totally worth every word. If you decide not to watch this show then you are seriously missing out. This is the only show I would call perfect

My Anime List
I pray you give Haikyuu!! a chance. If you are new to the genre, this might be a gateway to a new horizon for you. If you have enjoyed sports anime before, Haikyuu!! will continue your enjoyment of the genre. Inevitably, this show is and will be compared to Production I.G.’s other sensation, Kuroko no Basket. In the interest of bipartisanship and brevity, I will simply say that the main difference is that Kuroko no Basket relies more on spectacle, whereas Haikyuu!! integrates more realism. Regardless of opinion, I believe that you will really enjoy Haikyuu!!and, quite possibly, like me you will be eagerly awaiting season 2.

The Button Smashers
Really, the only things that’s preventing this show from getting a perfect score on my sheet are the moments where some cycles become repetitive, but even then the wittiness of the writing makes up for the points in the story that would rather be bland otherwise….which kinda doesn’t make it a flaw……..ah, whatever!

If you’re hesitant to try out sports anime like I was, I would say that Haikyu!! is a fantastic place to start. It’s a ball of pure hype traveling as fast as the best spikers can slam it, with incredible animation and sound work to bolster an already great story. This one will definitely be a necessary addition to anyone’s collection, and the first season is already out for purchase.

Rave It Up TV
In summary, this anime is one of the best sports animes I’ve watched because of its jammed packed ball of action, drama and comedy. Not only is this season filled with action and drama, it is also very popular due to its inspirational characters that honestly made me want to pursue volleyball for a short period. The only downfall was some of the backgrounds were shown unnecessarily that drew my attention away from the characters, but the good story line made up for it.

Anime Zeno
The plot is strong despite showing hint of another sports anime I know. The screen play overcomes all of these weaknesses and makes this anime a winner. But if they let Karasuno win against Shiratorizawa then Haikyuu! may lose its logic and of course credibility.

Anime Inferno
They do brief explanations on player positions and formations but not long enough that you get bored of it, and it is simply explained to anyone can understand. The opening theme (by SPYAIR) has already made it’s way onto my ipod, and the ending theme (by Nico Touches the Wall) is also floating around on there too. Guaranteed you have heard them before as they have multiple hits on anime shows like Naruto, Bleach, Gintama, Fullmetal Alchemist and Heroic Legend of Arslan. The animation is quite clean throughout, and the action is really smoothly done so there are not too many “low quality” moments. The animation style mimics the original manga, but not exactly so it has a fresh look if you have hit the books previously.
