Masamune-kun’s Revenge

(Last Updated On: February 17, 2017)

As a child, Masamune Makabe once suffered greatly at the hands of a wealthy and beautiful girl named Aki Adagaki, who nicknamed him “Piggy” due to his chubby appearance. Seeking revenge against his tormentor, Masamune works hard to improve himself and returns as an incredibly handsome, albeit narcissistic, high school student. When he encounters Aki once again, he is prepared to exact vengeance.

With the aid of the rich girl’s maid, Yoshino Koiwai, Masamune slowly begins to build his relationship with Aki, intending to break her heart when the time is right. However, as his friendship with Aki begins to grow, Masamune starts to question the objectives of his devious plans, and if bringing them to fruition is what his heart truly desires. – My Anime List

To say that I was pleasantly surprised by the show is just like say nothing. The first episode has put it on a par with Boku wa Tomodachi ga Sukunai and if all goes as it should Masamune-kun no Revenge will join the golden collection of the genre. By the way, the protagonist here is totally different from his counterparts from the most other school romcoms what makes this anime especially valuable. Also the show’s amazing art, plenty of beauty female characters who have yet to play their roles, hilarious jokes and charisma of the protagonist – that is only a part of why you shouldn’t miss the series.

In the end this was a solid first impression. No telling if I will pick up this show, but I did want to do a first look if nothing else.

I’m a huge fan of the manga series and just judging from the first EPS they did a great job with the intro.

My Anime List
To those who like a more professional outlook on an anime, I will say this. The art, sound and story are about average. Pretty typical for its genre. The character development isn’t the greatest, but shines when it comes to the main character and interaction between the plot and other characters. The main character was really relatable, which was nice to see for a change. Overall though, the enjoyment was off the charts. It is a refreshing anime (due how it goes about progressing as a harem/romcom) that will be great for those 2AM Sunday night binges that will make you hate life in the morning.

Comic Bastards
There’s this weird element of suspense that this story is built around, but it’s not a good fit for it. This is a comedy. A slice of life, possibly harem comedy and yet there’s this dramatic element of if this shitty person will find out his past identity or not. It doesn’t work. They’re too different but constantly battle for tone throughout the episode. Others seem to be enjoying the hell out of the show, and I just wish I could see what they’re enjoying. The jokes are typical, the animation is beautiful, but not awe inspiring, and the premise is weak. Whatever I’m missing, I doubt I’ll find it by watching more.
