Show By Rock!

(Last Updated On: February 21, 2017)

The great music adventure in Show by Rock!! begins after Cyan decides to play her favorite rhythm game and suddenly gets sucked in, finding herself in a world called Midi City where music reigns supreme. She learns that anyone who delivers amazing and powerful music also has the ability to control the city. However, not all music is pure. An evil plan is set in motion to engulf the whole Midi City in darkness. Is it too late for Cyan to do something?

Cyan Hijirikawa always regards herself as nothing but an ordinary girl living in a mediocre world. She has great talent and extreme guitar skills, but she also lacks the confidence to take the first step in realizing her dream to play in a band and be a music millionaire! Little did she know that an eminent power resides deep within herself—the power to defeat evil with her magical music!

Join Cyan, Chuchu, Retoree and Moa in a world where music is everything. – My Anime List

This was truly a sleeper hit series for me (perhaps partly helped by the main character, Cyan, being “the quintessential cat-girl” as someone described her). It wonderfully balanced the visuals, the audio, the voice acting and especially the story writing and world building. If another season does come I can only hope that they are able to keep it up to the standard of the first one. This was enjoyable and excellent in most every way.

So overall, here’s another show that managed to surprise me. I enjoyed a lot about this show and what it had to offer, and I was satisfied by the ending.

This is highly recommended to people who enjoy light-hearted anime with a hint of darker elements, along with people who enjoy anime with music bundled with it.

The Sushi Times

I think my favorite part of the show is its sense of humor. There’s another boy band, the SHINGAN * CRIMSONZ (or something like that), and they’re really dumb, crazy guys. The show has this general feeling of absurdity, i.e., one of the band members happens to be an alien, one of the rock groups plays traditional Japanese music (of a sort), and the entire premise of the show is that rock musicians fight evil monsters in the first place. Oh, and one of the main characters is a talking guitar.

You’ve probably guessed from all the complaining, but I am not a very big fan of the show. I cannot recommend watching it unless you are bored out of your mind and possess a bottomless well of patience for mediocrity. You won’t be missing anything of great importance if you decide to skip on it and check out something else instead, anyway. I actually had it on-hold for two months without even noticing– it’s that kind of show. I’m so bummed out about it I can’t even mention that Cyan is one of the cutest characters ever.

If you want to watch a show where character fight with the power of music, you’re probably not going to enjoy this. But if you don’t mind that there isn’t much action and prefer to see the characters and like the battle of the band concepts, I think this is a pretty good watch, non stop (not really non stop though)!
