Skip Beat!

(Last Updated On: July 21, 2017)

Bright, diligent, and yet naïve 16-year-old Kyouko Mogami works hard to support the career and dreams of her childhood friend, crush, and rising pop icon, Shoutarou Fuwa. Toiling endlessly at burger joints and tea ceremonies, the innocent Kyouko remains unaware that day in day out, all her tireless efforts have been taken for granted, until, one day, she finds out that her beloved Shou sees her as nothing but a free servant. Shocked, heartbroken and enraged, she vows to take revenge on the rookie star by entering the ruthless world of entertainment herself. As she steps into this new life, Kyouko will face new challenges as well as people who will push her out of her comfort zone. Based on the best-selling shoujo manga by Yoshiki Nakamura, Skip Beat showcases the growth of a young woman who slowly unlearns how to work herself to the bone for the satisfaction of others and takes her future into her own hands instead. – My Anime List

This anime is sooooo funny. I love how this anime came to be especially in manga. I just hope that they’ll release the season 2 of this anime. I really would like to see the relationship between Mogami Kyoko and Tsuruga Ren progress.

So please make a season 2 of this anime!

For over three decades, no series has been able to topple Glass Mask as the top shoujo/acting manga until now. In a way Skip Beat! is as much about damaged people trying desperately to fix themselves as it is about show business or acting misadventures, and the hope and joy it finds in their successes is more addictive than any amount of mere fun could ever be. You can just tell it’s 2000s’ elite shoujo anime.

Filled with Comedy, Romance, Drama, and highly entertaining. What’s not to love about it? If you can’t wait for the next season when it does finally come out (hopefully it is not going to end up like NANA) then you can read the manga.

This is definitely a highly recommended anime for both guys and girls. Girls will love it, and I know guys who have read the manga and love it.

Nevertheless, I recommend this show for those looking for a great shoujo-series. Great shoujo-series like this one are very rare, especially since most shows of the genre feel like a simple rehash of an existing formula without much of an own identity. Skip Beat, while too soppy for its own good at time is a genuinely funny series, and we can only hope that a second season will be made some day.

It makes you want to know more about acting and actors. If you haven’t before, you’ll start seeing actors as what they are – humans. That, combined with at times brilliant drama makes this anime worth watching!

THEM Anime
A very strong four stars, kept at that by the fact that the adaptation stops just as it begins to truly shine. I suppose you could dock a star if (for some reason) you just really don’t want to watch shoujo anime, but in that case I’ll still say give it a chance; this show might surprise you.

The storyline is original and has a lot of surprises in store for the viewer. Of course I’m not going to spoil these, it’s much more fun to find out about them yourself by watching the series. I will say this: Skip Beat! is definitely worth watching, Kyoko develops from an insecure girl that’s very much in the background and keeps quiet into a strong woman. Although her motives aren’t loved by everyone she runs into she does leave a lasting impression on the characters around her. After the harsh blow she received from Sho she has to learn to open up to love and friendship and this makes for a very interesting story.

Ani Help
Overall, I personally found this anime to be entertaining and engaging, with the subtle hint of ‘forbidden’ romance that makes everything all the more amusing. I would generally recommend this for a teenage and up audience due to a few darker themes, but overall, it was a good anime to watch when you want to laugh at a largely eccentric and unpredictable heroine fumbling around in a completely oblivious manner when it comes to matters of the heart!
