During the 21st century, humanity attempted to colonize Mars by sending two species which could endure the harsh environment of the planet to terraform it—algae and cockroaches. However, they did not anticipate the species’ remarkable ability to adapt. Now in the 26th century, a lethal disease known as the Alien Engine Virus has arrived on Earth, and the cure is suspected to be found only on Mars. The problem is, Mars in the present is overrun by creatures known as “Terraformars,” incredibly powerful and intelligent humanoid cockroaches that mutated from those originally sent to the planet. The Annex I team, consisting of a hundred men and women genetically enhanced with characteristics of powerful organisms from earth, has been sent to Mars on a mission to find the cause of the Alien Engine Virus and to help cure humanity—signalling the start of the crew’s fight for survival. – My Anime List

Poor character development, pacing issues and censorship aside, if you’re looking for an anime that plays on cheesy horror films with obscene amounts of action and gore that injects a bit of science fiction and Entomology lessons on some of the best bugs around, you should give this series a go.
I would probably recommend this show to people who want to watch an action packed bloodbath with minimum story. That isn’t a slight against the show. The show never tries to get too preachy or philosophical and sticks to delivering the wtf gore and action. It does it pretty damn well too, even with black bars constituting half the show for its early episodes. If you were to pick it up, I’d say approach it with a grain of salt, prepare for some unexpected feels in an episode or two and finally buckle down for all the violence headed your way.

Terra Formars’ biggest problem is that the series ends with, what is essentially, a “to be continued,” almost as if a second season in already in the works. Maybe we will be getting a second season, which I will definitely watch, because the concept of Terra Formars is fantastic, even if the series did not entirely deliver.

Terra Formars was simply another rushed adaptation that felt more like an eyegasm for the fans than an actual show. If you’re a fan of excessive gore or the manga then this might be for you.
Certainly worth a watch if you’re in the market for Sci-Fi anime with a unique setting without mechs. Get through those first three episodes, #4 and beyond are quite a ride.
The problem is the execution. While the storyline is interesting, there isn’t enough depth into it. A few more episodes and a better resolution and it could have been a great show. Without revealing spoilers, the ending only makes sense if a second season is planned. There’s plenty of violence, but the censoring takes care of that. Worth a watch.
A basic problem for me here was that I couldn’t really get that worked up against the bugs. Looked at objectively, the humans sort of brought things on themselves, and the bugs are just defending themselves against invaders who want to kill (or kidnap) their people. Throughout this show, I kept feeling we were supposed to root for…the wrong side.
There might be a good show here, but you’ll have to wait for the uncensored version to find out.
