Kimihiro Watanuki can see spirits and other assorted supernatural creatures, which is quite a bothersome ability he strongly dislikes. On the way home one day, while plagued by some spirits, he is inexplicably compelled to enter a strange house. There, he encounters Yuuko, a mysterious woman who claims to be able to rid him of the ability to see and attract the troublesome creatures—for a price. She demands that he work at her “store” that grants wishes to people, and thus begins Watanuki’s adventures through weird and wonderful events. – My Anime List

My wish for a truly enjoyable anime in a long time have been granted, and the price to pay is a 5 star rating!
Otakus And Geeks
This is one of my favorite animes of all time. Everything about this show is magical and deep. In the end Yuko makes you think twice about life and makes you wonder if things happen for a reason or by chance. I love the dynamic of the show and the humor of Watanuki.
The Cajun Samurai
Well, I have to admit, “xxxHolic” granted MY wish for a great anime with an enraptured story line, lovable characters, interesting animation and music choices and a voice acting/directing combo that’s a one-two, knock out, out of the park home run! And what was the cost? About $12 with free shipping. Can’t beat that.
Simple Anime Reviews And Facts
CLAMP created the source material, the animation style is unique, the mix of genres is interesting, the voice acting and characters are top quality, the show is lengthy, and it’s readily available, but the horror within the show could be very strong at times.
Overall, xxxHolic was a very interesting watch. Some episodes were amazing, other were just good. It’s not among the best anime ever, but definitely worth the watch.
Unleash The Anime
xxxHolic is a nice entertaining show that perfectly blends 2 things that you wouldn’t expect to be blended together being Supernatural and Comedy. I loved this blend and I feel this show was a nice change of pace from the shows that I had been watching. The story is episodic but entertaining nonetheless. The characters are great and mesh so well together they almost seem real. The soundtrack is great and each song deserves a listen and the voice cast is out of this world with a quality to match. The art style is a little unique but honestly I think it just added to the quality of the show. It doesn’t try to be like everything else so why should the art style? If you can get passed that then you are in for a great show. xxxHolic has a storyline that crosses over with the show Tsubasa Chronicle so if you watch xxxHolic then you might want to add Tsubasa Chronicle to your list as well. Either way you get a great show with few flaws.
This is such a fun and quirky show. Amusing, and definitely a good show to watch when you’re bored. I once watched 10 episodes in a row, so that should tell you something!
My Anime List
I’m really glad that I found the time to watch the series. I have to say that this is my favorite CLAMP series by far – mostly because the CLAMP series I’ve seen haven’t impressed me as much as xxxHOLIC. I’ll end this review with Yuuko’s words that resonated throughout the series – There is no such thing as coincidence in this world. There is only the inevitable.
xxxHolic is a good series to try out if you’re new to anime, it’s just creepy enough while also being light hearted. You get a lot of fun while also getting your mind challenged and that’s always a good thing. The anime isn’t a “complete” story though. There are several questions raised that, by the end. you’ll have to head over to the manga to find out the answers to. It’s a drawback, but in the case of Holic not an extreme deterent. With the Halloween season upon us, now’s the perfect time to dig up Yuko and the gang and get to binging. There’s also a pretty creepy ghost story episode in there – episode 10: “Lamplight.”
XXXHolic may seem like a typical “there’s weird stuff lets kill it” type of anime, but once you watch the first episode, you are instantly hooked. Most of the characters have personality, and the story does not fall short. Each episode is centered around a client and their wish, usually pertaining to a certain bad aspect of life. The supernatural aspect is worked into the story very well and with great results. If you like supernatural anime, you must check this gem out.
I’ve recently discovered this hidden gem. This is a much darker Anime then I expected. It is created by CLAMP and is seinen (for adults 18-30). It’s got a little bit of everything as most good Animes do. What’s unique about this Anime is how they blend very interesting mystical themes with modern life and it’s all done with awesome animation. It’s quite nice because you get some interesting insights into Japanese superstitions. Honestly it can be a little chilling sometimes.
I would watch this for the story line but pretty much not much else.
This anime is best thought of as a series of clever, spooky short stories with some continuing characters. Viewed that way it is quite entertaining.
One of the problems of the show is that it is another one of the talky kinds of anime. The show has a lot interesting surreal, abstract imagery which speaks for itself in many ways. However, at times characters go too much out of their way to explain concepts as if they are holding the viewers’ hands. Mushi-Shi is a show with similar concepts and imagery that tends to avoid these trappings.
Blog Of A Heretical Dub Lover
Some of the episodes feel week and others just leave you going “okay, that was cool but what about Watanuki and getting the spirits to lay off him?” Also, while xxxHolic can hit us with some truly eerie creatures (the monkey’s paw and the hand things creep me the hell out) many of the bad spirits that Watanuki is plagued by are just silly looking. Dark cloudy things with oddly placed eyes and limbs and mouths aren’t exactly all that frightening. Plus someone really enjoyed doing that animated smoke. When the series focuses on a spirit, they tend to give us a much better design thoug
